I consider myself very likeable

Hauling

Photobucket

Ever since college, as Spring came, I would pull my truck out of the garage and do hauling jobs for people. Partially it was to earn extra money – never unwelcome. But it was also in part to make sure I got out in the sunshine, interacted with people and since I’m pretty goal-oriented, helping people clear out their property or bring things that helped them build it up, was an agreeable way to do this.

Well, I’m up to my old tricks again. If you live in or near Eugene, Oregon and you’ve got brush to haul to the dump, or a garage full of stuff to go to the Goodwill, if you’d like to bring in topsoil or starts for your garden, remove a hedge, small trees or a fence, or anything similar, get a hold of me. I have references, am reliable and reasonable and will treat your property and you with respect.

Please note:

Unfortunately, I cannot help you move. Apparently, the household moving cabal in Oregon has a stranglehold on the service, to the disservice of people who can’t afford their monopoly-level fees. A helpful guy I talked to at ODOT said there was a bill in the state legislature to make it easier to get a license. But that is for the future. Just to be safe, I am not even moving a single personal effect between houses for fear of becoming the victim of a sting.

I can, however, deliver something you’ve just purchased to your home, according to the same ODOT employee.

Here are three typical jobs I’ve done this season.

  1. I cut down three dozen dead and dying ornamental cedars. They were on average about a foot in diameter and 10 to 12 feet high. I sectioned them and made five trips to Lane Forest Products to dump them. I back-hauled a yard of plant mix on each of the last two trips. This was a mammoth job, between the work itself and some aneurysm-inspiring issues with the chainsaw, it took me most of two days. This was for a high school teacher in the South Hills. Given his avowed intent to replant the area the cedars were with bamboo, I sent him off with some slips from the black bamboo we have at our place. It seemed the least I could do.
  2. I hauled The Heaviest Sofa The World Has Ever Known™ (which I believe was made of uranium), a glass-topped coffee table and several end tables for a woman and her daughter from where they bought them in Springfield to their apartment near Valley River Center in Eugene. Both mother and daughter belonged to local roller derby teams. My hand to G-d.
  3. I hauled away a large truckload of vines and branches to Rexius and backhauled a yard and a half of soil for a gal off of West 11th.
